Play Up To

Today's phrasal verb is Play Up To, which means:
To attempt to please somebody by flattery  or an overly nice manner  because you want them to like you or to do something for you

 I'm playing up to my boss at the moment because I want the promotion.
 He took great pains to play up to Joan’s mother
